After cleaning the toilet we noticed that the black gasket no longer held water. An internet search yielded this youtube easy fix. The pivit point on one side of the ball was knocked off causing the seal to leak. It only took a minute to fix. We didn’t even have to remove the black gasket - relief!
Also, sometimes the top half of the toilet gets bumped out of alignment. Only a little bit off will allow water to leak.
If so, you can gentle bump it back into place.
This is what I discovered after getting a new seal. Never installed the new seal (now in my tool box), but when I explored how to take the toilet apart to replace I noticed the top and bottom didn’t line up perfectly.

I have a strange brain... like that's a news flash! I bet you could just use a suction cup, stick it on the ball, and pull the ball back into alignment.

I had a similar problem but different cause. Winterized last year, put some RV antifreeze in the bowl and a few months in, it was empty. Did some searching in Airforums and found that sometimes the RV antifreeze dries out the gasket. Solution there is to:
1) glove up for the love of all things holy
2) clean out the ridge of the gasket with a toothpick
3) incinerate or otherwise trash the toothpick - do NOT put back in toothpick holder
4) wipe clean the edge of the ball valve
5) fill crease of gasket with dialectic or food grade grease
Worked perfectly. I'll make part of my winterizing checklist from now on.
