small flying insects.....

Last time we went camping in the warm weather, after the camper had been sitting for 4-6 wks. We had small flylike ( fruitflies) bugs in the camper that appeared to be coming from the black holding tank, because for one reason...I think I didn't properly clean the tank out after dumping the last time. I sprayed a spray bomb I had on board down the toilet a few times when I flushed it, it did stop the problem. My question is...did these bugs just develope in the waste or do they come down the unscreened roof vent stack? I see some of the after market roof vents for this pipe offer a screen with their vent kit. Anyone have any thoughts on this?? Thanks P.S. Now I do a much better job of flushing the tanks...
