sink to black tank??

Replacing the BT and moving the bathroom sink to the street side which will put it directly over the corner of the BT. This is a 66 Safari and it doesn't have a GT. I am thinking with the sink p-trap in place I should be able to plumb it directly into the top of black tank.. Really the sink won't get used much so the new tank (25 gal)can handle the water intake from there , plus it would give me an avenue to help flush the BT after dumping... Seems right to me , but what does the voice of experience have to say???

Many SOB trailers and even some Airstreams have the bathroom sink drain into the black tank.

As long as you have a p-trap (and make sure you keep water in it) and the vent stack is clear and working you should be fine.

This is a good idea, even if you eventually add a grey water tank.

It will give you more grey capacity if that happens and a black tank always benefits from having liquid to help break down the sludge.

Your idea can also be useful in flushing the tank, as you propose.

Just be sure that the p-trap and vent are built correctly and you will have a good system.

I seriously considered doing that when I rebuilt the rear of my Trade Wind. I did not because I was concerned about water being sloshed out of the P- trap during travel and allowing the black tank smell to enter the trailer. As it turns out, we don't use the bathroom sink very often as it is just easier to use the kitchen sink. The bath is small and I am tall. If we stop for lunch somewhere and need to use the kitchen faucet we put a dish pan in the sink and dump the water into the toilet. With a cap on the dump valve you can hold a gallon or so of grey water in the drain lines with no problem if you need to rinse something in the sink and don't have a dish pan.

Make sure any soap you use in that sink is septic system safe. Otherwise the chemicals in the soap will kill off the friendly bacteria that are needed in the black tank.

In septic tanks, the soap goes into the tank with the poo, but the action still goes on. Would this also be true for the RV tank?
