Shower pan removal?

My 1980 Caravelle has a GROSS shower pan that is badly stained. I've been working on the belly pan so I thought now would be a good time to disconnect the plumbing and repaint the pan. Question -- can I just take the pan out without a major project and how do I disconnect the drain? Thanks, Don

There may be a panel that will allow access to the drain otherwise you will have to turn out the basket from the top side to remove it, then remove all the perimeter fastners, be careful as the pan is molded abs plastic and not very thick in some spots. It can be sanded, primed and painted with polyurethane paint to give a nice finish.

Zoom, Got it out and now I will be looking for the materials to refinish it. I'll be checking HD and Lowes any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks, Don
