Shower pan/bench and vanity...paint it???

Hello! My husband and I are new to this forum. We recently purchased a 1992 29' Airstream Excella with a middle bath and back twins. We contacted Airstream because we desired to replace the shower pan/bench. However, Airstream told us that the shower pan/bench for that year was no longer available and they had actually "broke the mold." We were wondering what others have done to update/replace the shower pan/bench? Was anyone successful in painting it?? What about the yellow plastic vanity that surrounds the mirror in that model? Any ideas about replacing or painting it? HELP PLEASE!!! Thank you so much in advance!!!!

Try searching on *painting bath* and you'll probably see lots of other threads on this particular topic. Some folks have had success using a variety of paints and others have removed the yellowing using a process called Retrobright. Here's a small sampling of such posts:

Search function with google is a pretty good way to research shower pan too.

Good luck with your project. This one is still on my *to do* list.

We have a 1991 Excella, same "yellow" colored shower and vanity cabinet. We have painted the vanity cabinet which we have one above the toilet and one above the bathroom sink, used KILZ primer and then an interior paint, it has turned out very nice and has not shown any signs of peeling, etc. so far, it's been about 4 moths since we painted. Haven't done anything yet with the shower.

Hi Bowhead13,
My husband and I have been spending the past year or so rebuilding the interior of our 1979 31' International. Back in the spring we re-painted everything in our bathroom to get rid of the yellow look and also possibly add support to the plastics that might have been breaking down after 30 years of use. We used a product called Tile Doc (Sherman Williams suggested using either this or XIM) to seal all the bathroom plastics. Feel free to go to my husband's site (he does a much better job posting and explaining what we've done): Bowmans (you will find information about our bathroom redo under the title: Starting on the inside of the 1979 International). Best of luck!!!

As an alternative to painting, here is a thread about brightning the ABS plastic: http://www.airforums.com/forums/f39/a-great-way-to-restore-yellowed-plastic-50799.html
