Shower Glass/ Curtain

We just purchased our 1973 Land Yacht Sovereign Airstream and the previous owners have hooks and a shower curtain that don't look good. What was surrounding the tub and shower? How could I replace such a thing? Could anyone point me in the right direction and explain to me what should be there or what I should do. Thanks.

i have done as your po and you dont want what was there . i have had 3 airstream units and had lots of problems with the shower enclosures . in my motor home the enclosure made soo much noise i took it out, on the road coming home. and installed a shower curtain when i had time. must be a really bad install on the shower curtain. mine looks like it came from the factory . i would improve the curtain installation . you will change your mind when you get a price for the origional enclosure. lol

just went back and see you have a 73 is that a rear bath??? if it is a rear bath it came with a shower curtain. mid bath is the shower i have used a curtion to replace the plastis enclosure.

It has a rear bath, but they installed some tiny hooks and they are all bunched together and the curain appears not to cover the whole tub. With some advice what should I use for the curtain, since there is roundness in the back? Thanks for the advice.

you have the same unit i had . i dont remember having a problem with the shower curtin . if water gets on the shelf it run into the sink. the shelf is molded abs . just send my manual for that unit to a friend on the west coast . wish i had it i could refresh my feeble mind. true the curtain doesnt go all the way around but it did stop the water from getting on the floor. and the little that got on the shelf ran into the sink. i bought a shower curtin from wal mart i had to cut it off (bttom) for it to fit , hang like it should.
nut much else i can tell you . hope i shed a little light on the problem.lol

For what it's worth:
we have been living full time since 1996 in our 1974 29' Land Yatch International. It's a rear bath. I suppose they used the same material - cheap looking plastic.
We don't have problems with the shower enclosure. I can see how you can notice noise in a MH, but I think in a TT it's not much of a problem as long as you don't forget to secure the tie that holds the doors folded when traveling. We travel about 8000 miles a year on not always good roads, and we never had any damage to the enclosure.

Most likely. I don't recall if a '62 is fiberglass or porcelain though. Several folks here have re-done theirs themselves, maybe someone will chime in.

If yours is like my '59, it's neither fiberglass nor ceramic, but some type of hard plastic. I took mine to a professional tub refinisher to sand off the peeling coating that a p.o. had put on, repair an edge crack, and spray with several coats of an epoxy-type coating. It looks great now!

This was one of those things I thought would take way more time -- and probably not look nearly as good -- if I did it myself. And it's going to get a LOT of use, because we'll be living in the trailer for the next year or so. And, because I've been restoring this trailer from the ground up, I have had PLENTY of other things that I've needed to be doing that would not have been so easy to sub out!

If you'll go to this site you can see the folding shower door that was originally in your unit. Look in the photo archive for your year and a couple previous and after - know I saw at least two photos. It unfolds and clips into the the little white bracket on the other side.

In our Ovelander (71) we have a vinyl fan fold that does the same thing but just slides in behind the shower faucet handle. Its not more than 3 or 3 1/2 feet high total.
