Shower Control Knob...?

I have two pictures here of this 'knob'. It has ceased to function and wonder if there is an exact replacement part for it. It pulls out for 'on' and left and right for hot and cold. Any ideas, or contacts? I will also send these pictures to Andy at inland.

RedhawkerII,

These valves are often residential fixtures. Take it off and take it to a plumbing supply house for parts or a new valve.

Bill

What Bill said. If you cant' find a direct cartridge replacement you can probably replace it with any residental Moen shower valve fixture.

Ok, there's a plumbing supply place up the street and we will take it up to them..I was wpndering what the heck the cartridge was or looked like, Andy also said to examine it carefully but he did not say exactly what to look for? But the plumbing people will probably know...we don't have the water connected right now but will have that oportunity to look. Thanks

By "ceased to function" what are you really saying?? Since you don't have the water connected, I was wondering if this was a problem from last time the water was used. Many times, mineral deposits can clog and even block water lines to the point that no water will flow. This is just a guess. Good luck with getting things moving again.

What am I looking for...?

This a.m. I removed the screws from around the knob and removed it and the backing plate and some of the 'inards' of the knob...the backing plate has the word 'Moen' at it's bottom...Am I supposed to pull anything more out...and, is this central core thing going to budge?

Silverhobby I am not sure, like I mentioned I was gone for a bit and...I just can't say, it has worked fine before...and the person I take care of is mentally challenged with the best intentions, and I am thinking he must have gone to fix it for some reason or other and did not put it back together correctly...because when you pull the knob out (WHEN water is and was connected, nothing came out...

Take the sleeve off, then pull the brass horse shoe pin.

That will now allow you to pull the cartridge.

It could be in backwards.

That very center where a screw holds everything will not turn neither left or right nor will it pull out or in...so we WD-40'd it for now...The sleeve DID finally come out and there does look like a horseshoe pin (aimed downwards with a small tap at its top thats hard to get ahold of...looks like but that center very center peice thats supposed to move side to side and in and out- doesn't budge so we are oil soaking it. Stay tuned, Angel went to get some vice grips...

The horshoe shaped retaining clip should come out pretty easy with the aid of a flat blade screw driver.

Take a look here...

http://www.moen.com/shared/pdf/instr...eets/MT170.pdf

I know it is a kitchen faucet, but pretty much all Moen cartridge type fixtures are the same mechanically. This will help you vizualize what to remove and what goes where.
