Shower Check Valve

Our 2001 Bambi 19 shower has a low pressure issue. When the valve at the spray head is turned on, the water flows in a good pattern of individual needle sprays. But after a second or two it drops to a sloppy dribble. The pressure drop seems to be at the fitting where the hose connects to the wall. It has a rubber check valve with a rather small hole in the center where the water comes through. What is the purpose of the check valve, and what will happen if I remove the guts (besides a better shower)?

The shower has a shallow "tub" that can be filled with water. Some folks use it to hand wash a variety of items. The shower head/wand can be lowered down into this tub. If you were to do this, and then drain your freshwater lines from a low point (or had a plumbing leak), you could siphon water from the shower into your fresh water lines. Not a good thing. Hence the check valve.

If you think it is the source of your problem, try soaking the fitting in warm vinegar.

That is a "water saver" perhaps?

Also there is supposed to be a "vacuum break" in the line.

Same fitting leaking?

I'm having a problem with a leak in my shower and wondering if this is the same fitting you're talking about (not sure exactly how to upload an image, so let e know if you can't see this).

Do y'all know what piece needs to be replaced to make this leak stop and where I might find it? I don't even know what it's called in order to search for it online.

no picture.. you have to go 'advanced' then include the file...

Not clear where you are saying it 'leaks'.. inside the shower?

Similar Question on Shower Valve

Hello,

I have attached a picture of our shower. It has a clear hose issue but before that happened it started leaking around the black plastic where the hose attaches to the supply fixture. Why is it leaking and what do I have to do to replace the part?

Thank you for your help!

Still no picture.
If the picture is on your laptop you'll have to use the "attach" option. That's the button with the paper clip.

Select that, then use "browse" to locate the picture on your hard drive, highlight it and select OPEN, UPLOAD, then the 'close this window' at the top right and you'll get back into your posting.

You won't see the image unless you use the "Preview Post" button just below the box with your text.

After you see the image, scroll down and choose "submit reply" button

On our shower, right at the connection, there is a small washer and plastic filter. Your washer might be old/weak or the nylon piece might be missing. Either would cause a leak at that point.

Shower vacuum breakers/anti-siphon valves don't last forever and can cause leaks and restrict flow when they begin to give up the ghost.

Access to replacement parts?

Hello-

Does anyone know how this apparatus comes apart? Hose comes off and does the black plastic piece unscrew out of the connection? Sorry but I will likely break it without a little direction.

Judging from your question about the black piece of plastic, it sounds like it is the anti-siphon valve which is giving you the problems. My suggestion is to buy a new one ($16.90 from Amazon: Hansgrohe 06510000 External Vacuum Breaker, Chrome - Vacuum And Dust Collector Accessories - Amazon.com) and look at it carefully to see what part to remove from your shower. In fact, the picture in Amazon might help with that.

If memory serves, the black plastic piece is an internal part of the valve you now have and it and the chrome piece surrounding it unscrew from the outlet.
