Repairing Thetford Toilet
I have a 65 Safari ,rear bath with the fiberglass bench over a Thetford Toilet. I just finished restoring the fiberglass bath, but when I went to install the toilet, it wouldn't stop running. Fortunately, I simply hooked it up without installing it first, to see if it would work. I just bought this trailer and the water supply to toilet was ruptured due to freezing and so I'd never actually used the toilet before. Also, this is my first Airstream. I'm a very competent plumber when it comes to residential plumbing, but I've never seen anything like this Thetford thing. It has a water inlet, then a line coming out of the other side of the inlet valve of the toilet that runs parallel to the floor, going about 18" toward curbside, then goes up about 10" to some kind of mushroom looking thing, then another line coming down and going back to toilet bowl. Anyway, now that I've hooked up the water supply, it just keeps running and running and would overflow the bowl if I didn't turn off the water supply. The toilet is in OK shape and it's a little late to modify the fiberglass bathroom, seeing how I just spent $600 to restore it, so my preference is to repair this toilet. Any ideas? Where do you get parts for this thing? Where do I start?
