You are following the same process that I did when the bathroom of my '64 Overlander International was refinished. A local craftsman who specialized in household bathroom refinishing handled the process -- he had me tow the Overlander to his shop -- he spent numerous hours working to get things "just-right" (his hobby was restoring Chevrolet muscle cars from the 1970s) -- his investigation revealed that the bathroom in my Overlander had ABS plastic, Formica, and Fiberglass --he used specialized primer/surfacers for each of the plastic products that permitted him to use the same top-coat process -- it has been a little more than five years since this project was completed and the bathroom still looks like new.
Good luck with your project -- mine was well worth the expense (within a few dollars of the price you indicated).
