I just bought my first A S 1982 Limited. The fun is about to start.

What is the roof inside made of ? I can not clean it. It has a very tacie feel to it. My wife said it is like cooking grease. It is on the side walls from front to back. The people We bought it from thought it might be from a heater they installed in it. ( Propane ) none venting. As the fernace does not work.
This thing is sweet and we just love it. One job at a time.

It`s sort of a plastic coated alum.,at least that`s what my 77 is,I had a few of those places,what I used was 409 ,had to let it soak for a while,but it finally got it off.Good luck,Dave

Thanks to some folks on the forum, we used Krud Kutter from Lowes and the sticky came right off, in a yuckey brown layer. The interior smells, looks and feels like new!

The early 70s were vinyl. The tackyness is from oils and solvents leaching out. You should be able to find a few threads on this if you do a search. Some cleaners have been found to be more successful than others. Other owners have successfully painted the vinyl over. If you just leave it alone makes excellent fly paper.

I used a MEAN GREEN (Dollar Store) product and Mr. Clean mixture to clean a 79 model. It had a strong odor, but cut the gunk

After you clean it all up (I used Simple Green), go over it with Mop-n-Glo. Makes it look very nice.

As has been mentioned, a search will reveal multiple threads on this question - what works best for some will not work for others.

Best results for the '78 came from Simple Green and Purple Power, but you have to find the best cleanser for your application.

The amazing thing is, once you have it "clean", the gunk reappears - sometimes a day, sometimes a week or more. There are portions of the '78 that have been "cleaned" no less than 6 times...

The good news is that eventually the stickey stuff disappears if you scrub it often enough...hang in there, it will eventually come clean.

I used Greased Lightning, and then Brite 1-step, a few years ago and the ceiling is still smooth and slippery. Got them both from Home Depot, I think.

On our '74, the only thing that worked for me was Magic Eraser By Mr. Clean (the generic brands worked just as well). It takes some elbow grease, but leaves the vinyl perfectly clean. Even cleaner than Castrol Super Clean (which required just as much physical effort, is pretty much caustic as it drips down your arm , and requires a rinse). i would say to us meangreen and let it completly dry and then use mop and glow on a rag to keep it from doing it again!
