So an AS is built for camping in cold weather with heated tanks and insulation everywhere. But what about the outside shower? It seems to me there should be a way to shut it off and drain it so the faucet set on the outside is dry. Otherwise it could freeze and be damaged. Yes? No?

It's most likely assumed that when you winterize the unit that function is blown clear of water..I haven't seen your unit but..I would be willing to bet you could add a shutoff valve similar to what's used on water heater to shut it off. The trick is to do that and, at the same time, add a separate drain mechanism to clear the line and, yet allow you to use the rest of the water system internal.(If that's what you planning on..)
Find the line that feeds it from the inside and, put an adapter there for the drain..
It's possible there's one already there?
I' use my unit in the winter but never the internal water system.
Bottled water for me and camping ground comfort stations..Takes the worries out of possible freezes..
Maybe someone will pip in with the best answer.

I'm just surprised that this wasn't taken into account in design. I've had the city water hose to my AS freeze and it didn't hurt the shower, but I'd think a hard freeze would.
I'll have to poke around and see what mod I can do.
I know that on the 16' it's enclosed to the interior with the hose passed out an opening..YOUR'S is different?

You are right! I agree Airstream should have included a turnoff to the exterior water. My husband put a shut-off under the floor of the closet where our outside water is.

Mine's the same, but I think the faucets could freeze since they are outside the heated interior with just a flimsy plastic cover.
I've recognized this as a problem since I got mine 2+ years ago. My 25-er has no easy way to get to the outside shower to install a cutoff. Haven't done it yet but I can live without an inside shower and intend to install a cutoff for both. We should let Airhog1 ask the factory if they have addressed this.
