outdoor shower install? Is there a kit....

Hi. I am going to install an outdoor shower on my 22' ccd. I want it to look factory,so i may have to make an aluminum door. I see the plastic kits but i dont think it will look good as they are stark white. What kit does airstream use? A grey kit would look good as my hot water tank and stove are grey vented.
Thanks
Colin

Check the classified (Airforums). I noticed someone had some storage doors for sale. If I was to custom make a unit such as you are intending to do, I think an original aluminum door and frame would be the way to go. In fact you may have given me an IDEA!!

Good luck with your project. So far, I have a unit I bought at a campground store which is made out of plastic. It has a water spicot at the bottom, a faucet in the middle for the shower head at the top. The unit has a spike at the bottom to stick into the ground for sability.

Let us know how you do.

I have not seen the item that Airstream uses, but you might be able to change it from white plastic to silver. I have successfully painted plastic and other items on our Airstream a nice metallic silver using automotive paint in spray cans, available from a car parts store. After painting the item silver, I spray on a coat or two of clear coat to keep the silver paint from oxidizing. When exposed to weather, this type of paint job seems to last about 5 years. It is easy to redo.

You could also just get a solar shower bag- they actually work really well if you get any sun up there. If not, you can just fill it with hot water from your tap. Just an easy, cheap idea for you. -tim

Hi. Thanks for the replies. We tried the solar water bag and its a no go. Too cold here in Canada. An ice bag might work though.

The paint idea is actually pretty good, lots of really decent plastic paints now that really adhere so yea. Good idea.
The aluminum door and frame i can make with no problem as i fabricate in aluminum every day so that is not a problem. I dont want to make things more difficult than necessary though. The cut i make in the aluminum skin can be the skin of my new door so matching will be perfect. I want this door as small as possible so i would just replace the door and frame of the kit.

Next question. Whats a good kit with good qualty materials? I see some all plastic ones on the net but they look sort of cheap, the knobs look how you say.....cheap?

When i do you install i will take picures so others can do the same.

Much appreciated for the good ideas.

Colin..... I have a 2007 Safari 25FB with the original equipment outdoor shower. The door that covers the plastic compartment with the shower head, hose and valves is made of plastic and is painted silver. The cover looks good and blends in with the side panels.

Had the factory install one on mine just this past March. Same model - 22 foot CCD. It is the white model you see on the internet but painted silver. Same manufacturer, same identical unit. If you install it between the ribs oustde the kitchen sink then the plumbing runs are a minimum. I can take a picture when I get home in a few days.

If you get a white one, use the spray paint at Walmart for plastic - I think it's called FUSION. Looks like what AS did - the overspray on the backside looks like someone in the back just sprays them.

Thanks 2dabeech . That looks decent. I will go that route i think.
Sure Clancy. A pic of yours would be beneficial. Thats the spot i planned as the lines are right there. Is it a Phoenix brand shower by chance? Yup. Fusion spray paint is the stuff i have used before to paint a car console.Good stuff. Much appreciated.

Our 2009 factory installed is simply a painted plastic unit, same as new SOB trailers.
