Options for shower or bathtub

Hi. I'm new to airstreams and this forum, so please bare with me.

I would like to install a shower in the bathroom of a 31' 1979 airstream. The shower that was there has been gutted. The prior owner started to install a shower but gave up.

I've seen few sucessful inexpensive shower otpions that are water tight. I've seen many bathtubs used as shower basins. Are there any sucessfuls budget shower options? Am I correct that a bathtub is a safer installation than a shower?

I am not going to do the renovation myself. I need to hire a contractor.

Are you working on a '73 or a '79 (your profile indicates a '73)?

Are you trying to install the new shower in the exact same space as the old one occupied, or has then entire bathroom been removed?

Inland RV seems to sell a replacement showerpan with a seat, shown below:

Inland RV Center Inc.

It says that it is a replacement for a '74-'82, but I am not sure how it is supposed to fit, as the original baths I have seen on most of the later 70's trailers have the seat squeezed into the corner of the trailer. Maybe you are supposed to cut the Inland part.

I need to change my profile. Its a new to me '79, so the pan would be within the years listed. I'm not sure how this pan works or where it would fit. Does it need a curtain. Do you sit and take a shower?

We could keep everythihg where it was, as that would be esiest, but it seem that having the shower/bath in the mid-line, meaning next to the back window would give the most height. My wife and I are 6'.

That pan is for a center bath. It is exactly like the one in my '74 Sov. I have pictures of my shower in my thread "Resurrecting Big Bertha..." I'll see if I can post a link, but I'm on my iPad, so don't hold your breath or anything...

-Red, trying to figure it all out...

Right now the bath/shower is on the side, not the center. But, whatever bath/shower was there has been gutted.

Center bath means that the bathroom is in the center of the trailer, basically over the wheel wells, with the bedroom in the rear. A rear bath trailer has the bedroom in the middle, and the bathroom in the rear of the trailer. The picture of the shower pan that was linked is for a center bath trailer, where the shower pan is over the curb side wheel well.

-Red, trust me, I'm an alumadoctor...
