Can you confirm that your water heater lit and stayed lit? The light on the switch panel should come on and then turn off and stay off. You should be able to hear the burner working. Are the valves at the heater in the proper positions (the ones in the lines to and from the heater in line with the pipe, the bypass across the heater perpendicular to the pipe)? As you turn the temperature valve from the cold position to the hot position, does the pressure and/or flow change? This would indicate that the valve is working.
