need help with reinstallation of the tub
We have a 1972 31' soverign with rear back bathroom. The bathroom has been gutted but we have most of the original parts. We have the tub. How is the tub held in place? Does it rest on something? Can someone give me any insight? Thanks this is our first airstream and we're very excited!

Hi Katie,
I have the same year and make as you and replaced the bathroom floor last summer. We did a 70% remodel of our bathroom but kept the tub and water heater cabinet.
Anyways, to answer your question. The tub rests on a raised plywood platform that's about 5-6 inches high. The horizontal supporting part of this platform is roughly the same size as the surface area of the tub. If you have this platform you can't miss it. The platform does NOT mount to the floor it floats. The tub is held in place by the curbside closet wall on one side and the main vanity piece on the other. The tub has a vanity support piece which flairs out from the back side of the tub.
My blog has pics of the bathroom. Even though we replaced all of the vanity countertops, we kept the basic layout the same.

Mike,
Thanks for the help. We don't have the platform. Do you have any pics of what it should look like? If the platform floats what keeps it off of the plumbing? We checked out your blog. Nice remodel job! If you have more pics of the bathroom on there we would love to see them. We also do not have the cabinets under the vanity so we are trying to figure something out for that too. Thanks

Here's an old pic I took before the bathroom subfloor was replaced and before the bathroom was rebuilt. You can see part of the platform here and I'll take a few more later today. The plumbing and furnace vent fit underneath the platform. The platform is supported by 3/4 in plywood pieces which raise the platform about 6 inches.
BTW, I'm trying to get rid of my old bathroom vanity pieces. If you would like them let me know.

Katie,
I have a couple of pictures of the one out of my 1975 along with some dimensions that I can post later today (heading out the door for a 5 hour drive ). It looks like it should be the same as what was in the 1972.

Katie,
Here are scans of the 1974 Service Manual, showing an image of the bathroom furniture, with the exception of the wood platform that wahoonc posted. The one with text describes removal and reinstallation of the parts. I don't think from looking at Mike's that your bathroom should be too much different than mine.
Hope those two are useful for putting it all back together. Let me know if you need larger versions of them, I find the text one a bit difficult to read.

Mike, I had a look at your blog, and the bathroom looks fabulous! Did your carpenter leave the old top in there and just install the new one over it?
Sorry, maybe you could send me a PM, don't want to take over this thread.

Katie, I have items 4, 18 and pieces of item 2 above in the drawing if you want them. I'd love to get them out of the garage. You'll have to come get them. tho. Too big to ship easily.

Hi Aage,
No, the countertops are all new. I ditched the three old ABS vanity pieces. I reused everything else. We're very happy with the bathroom now. Moreover, the construction is rock solid and very study.

Wow! Thank you all for all your info. It has really helped out! Thanks for posting pics too. It helps when you can see what your trying to do. The service manual is great. Jim and Susan, we would love to get those parts, however we are out in Oregon heading to Montana next. But... maybe one of our parents or a friend would be able to get the pieces? Would really love to have them. When I get some time I will post some pics and show everyone what we are working with. Thanks again, everyone is so nice!

tub platform
Because of significant floor rot, I ended up totally redoing our rear bath. The enclosed picture will show you how the wooden platform relates to the tub drain.
I rerouted both the supply lines and drain lines, so your plumbing won't look exactly like the same. The tub drain and platform however, had to go back in their original locations since I reused the tub, and the two panels on the curb side. The tub drain is kind of hard to see, but it's right next to the angled edge of the platform. I ended up building a new countertop and putting in a new sink.
Not all the black lines in the picture are waste lines, some are supply lines with pipe insulation covering them.
Good luck with the rebuild.
