Tank is not really enclosed in a box, so to speak. More like boxed-in. Sides are shower pan, aluminum walls, and bulkhead wall. A piece of plywood sits directly on top of the tank, then a layer of decorative fiberglass board.

Why not rebuild the old Swirl A Matic? I took mine apart, from the 62 Bambi, and cleaned out all the corrosion and lime buildup and it works like new and fits.

I'm looking very closely at that Aqua Magic style ll.
I was going to fix the Swirl A Matic but metal parts in the flush assembly have corroded and broken. Other parts quite soft. Too bad, because bowl looks like it had never been touched.
I saved it though in case a base comes along that works.

I LOVE the Mickey Mouse one! LOL! And, Grayling, you are right, I could paint a plastic one with Krylon and I've given that some thought, too. But the refrigerator and sink are white, so I could get away with a white one.
By the way, I see a Dometic 210 RV Toilet Bone Traveler Lite Low Profile W/ Hand Spray at Dometic 210 RV Toilet Bone Traveler Lite Low Profile W/ Hand Spray for $165 with free shipping. It's 100% china. Not sure if the "bone" is the color, though. Any thoughts on how that would "fit" us, er, I mean the Bambi, of course.

The Dometic 210 is 19 1/2" from front to back and a touch over 12" tall. The Aqua Magic is 20" from front to back and 12" tall. Both seem larger than Grayling's picture. But Beaker63 says the Dometic 310 fits fine. The Dometic 310 is 19" from front to back and 13 3/4" tall, still larger than Grayling's picture. Did the size of the head change during the three years?

Need a wee weewee-er.
I'll measure the base again tomorrow. 19 inches sounds a little too big, may start to overhang the front edge. But I'll double check. Is the base 19" front to back, or the bowl area? If bowl, then it would likely be okay.

Remeasured.
This pic shows the reinforced floor. What was originally there was the old black tank sitting on top a couple 1 x 1.5 inch strips of wood nailed to the floor (I'll go over floor repairs in another forum). The old tank was convex on the bottom, so strips along perimeter worked well for it. Then, on top of the black tank was a piece of plywood about 3/4", then fiberglass decorative surface. The toilet mounts on top of these layers, with flange spanning the distance.
However, the new tank is flat on the bottom, not convex. Also not as strong, and a little shorter height than the original. Therefore, I elected to use a full-sized plywood build up instead of strips. The plywood shown is primarily for elevation of the tank, but also lends additional reinforcement to the floor. The final built-up platform has to match the height of the shower pan, which is about 6.5 inches.
The edge of the platform comes out just past the black vent pipe. The tank comes right to the edge of the plywood.
So about 16 inch base is the max diameter before getting too close to the edge. There's a little more room behind the toilet, however remember the way the walls curve inward, especially in a corner. Lid will hit wall if too far back. Also, I have to leave a little room behind toilet for mechanics.
So the two models I have narrowed down to are the Aqua Magic Style ll and the Dometic 210/310. The 210s have been discontinued, but 210 is a better fit than 310. Just don't know how long parts will be available for the 210. Hate to start out with an obsolete model. But so is my AS, right?

Need a wee weewee-er.
Old tank
You can see how far forward the old discharge hole is from the back wall.
New tank
One would then ask "well why not bring the tank a little farther forward?"
Good question, but I can't. The original tank ran a little bit under the side wall, so it has to pass behind the black vent pipe (see pic in previous post). I am taking advantage of this original set up by increasing the width of the tank further under the wall and into the kitchen, which gives me about 5 more gallons of waste storage.

Here are a couple pix of the aqua magic style II:
Looks like your original set up was like mine, but I can't speak for your new tank....

From Dometic 310/311 Toilet with Hand Spray, the dometic 310 is Overall width is 15", Overall depth from front to back is 19", Front of pedestal to wall is 14.75", Center of drain hole to wall must be at least 10.5"
From Products - Dometic, the dometic 210 is (H x W x D) (inch) 14-18 x 14 7/8 x 19 1/2
and (L x W x H) (inch) 19 1/2 x 14 7/8 x 14-18, which means to me the front to back is 19 1/2.
From Aqua Magic Style II, the aqua magic II is 20" from back to front. This page has a wonderful diagram of the measurements.
Hope this helps. For me...I'm very confused. Reading the reviews of the different products is even more confusing. A number of reviews for the Dometics really dissed on the Thetford one, but then again others did the reverse.
What's the consensus???

Need a wee weewee-er.
The Aqua Magic Style ll is 20 inches at the bowl. The base is only around 10-11 inches. Since it is so low profile, 20 inches at the bowl/seat will fit the little closet in the Bambi.
I've also read pros and cons of Thetford vs Dometic. So, for me, if both models fit, it's going to come down to weight and price.

Dometic 311 is 24 lbs. 310 shows 27 lbs.
conflicting info. Is the 310 the high profile and 311 the low profile?
Thetford Aqua a Magic Style ll is 25 lbs.
Pretty much a wash. Price plus shipping may be final factor now. Guess I won't need the Mickey Mouse toilet after all. Bummer.

I have looked at so many sites, I'm crosseyed. Some don't distinquish between the 310 and the 311 and just offer the toilet as tall or low, white or bone. Others do, but they conflict. However, the Dometic site says the 311 is the short (13.875" tall) and 310 is tall (18"). By the way, there is a Dometic 210, new, for sale on Ebay, but it's above $400! There is a tremendous range of prices between ebay, amazon, and the various RV sales companies.
My Bambi was made in CA and the head is streetside. I wish the footpedal was on the left instead of the right as the 311 is. Or am I now getting too picky? I want the Mickey one!

Just my opinion - I think a left side foot pedal would be a little awkward. When I take a step, being right handed, it's my right foot that is most comfortable being lifted.
In this case, with toilet being up on a platform, the step to flush is even more awkward as pedal will be a 9-10 inch elevation from floor/shower pan. Personally I would rather have a hand flush in my toilet since I don't want to build a step stool.
Neither of these toilets come with hand flush, I will go with what feels most natural for us. May be different for you.

Need a wee weewee-er.
Ok, pulled the trigger on the Aqua Magic Style ll.
On sale right now at Camping World for $189.
$9 shipping plus $25 rebate.
http://www.campingworld.com/shopping...ile-bone/35763
I will report back on the fit as soon as I install it. I am currently at a standstill on my rebuild until I get the toilet in. The toilet dictates the exact placement of the tank, which dictates exact location of dump valve, etc.
Right now, my trailer is totally gutted. Getting the new toilet finally in place will set in motion getting the rest of the bathroom and the kitchen back together. The kitchen and water closet share the wall that the vent pipe hides in. Modifications are also being made to vent pipe to vent the new black tank, and the new grey tank that will sit under kitchen counter.
Hurry up toilet. In the meantime.... painting the interior and changing out all the glass in the windows to tempered. Oh joy.

Toilet has arrived. I don't have tank installed and platform built up yet, but preliminary check shows it fits. It's a little tight, but I don't know how many modern toilets are going to fit like the old pedestal Swirl-A-Matic did.
Thetford Aqua Magic Style ll:
Base of toilet - fits great. Lots of space for adjustments. Doesn't even come close to where the edge of the platform is going to be.
Lid - misses hitting the back wall by about 2 inches. When up on the platform, will have at least an inch of space between raised lid and wall. Perfect.
Space behind toilet base for hookups - plenty of room.
Flush pedal - glad it is on the right. More space there. I have a street-side bathroom.
Bowl - comes really close to the wall that divides bathroom and kitchen. Will be interesting to see how much buttocks spill-over rubs wall (hey, review needs to be complete and honest, right?).
I will get the tank and plumbing installed over the next couple of week, then I will post pics when done.
