Need a wee weewee-er.

Howdy all -

Totally rebuilding bathroom on 1961 Bambi. This includes replacing the old Swirl-A-Matic toilet.

My needs are small. Literally. Looking for a china toilet that will fit in the water closet. Has to be low profile since it sits on the above-floor black tank. Also has to have a small enough bowl diameter so the lid does not hit the curved wall when raised.

The closest I've seen so far is the Dometic 310 (210 better but not being made anymore).

Thoughts? Attached is a pic of the old bathroom so you can see what I'm "up against."

Also for fun a pic of the old Swirl A Matic taking a bubble bath in my house. Hey, she had to be clean before pacing her up for storage, and a hot bubble bath is not a lot to ask after 50 years of hard labor.

Dang, never thought about something like the lid hitting. Since it's a wet bath anyway, can you just remove the cover? That's a tiny bath space. There's probably 20% of the American public (maybe more) that would never be able to fit in there.

I got mine off of Vintage Trailer Supply, but I guess you're looking for something beyond the common.

If you're willing to be a bit flexible on the whole "china" issue, The wet bath in an Airstream Interstate (also pretty tiny) uses a Thetford Aqua Magic toilet with foot pedal flush. It's about the smallest toilet I've seen that still allows a full-grown human do the needful with it.

Half kidding, there's always a Japanese-style "squat" toilet, which looks kind of like a urinal laid on its back:

Yes, and they eat with two sticks. Think I'll go with something more American, like a Chinese-made toilet. A Chinese contortionist could fit in this bathroom, so makes sense in my world.

Now, I'm wondering if I was bathing in a tub or ? in Europe. I do remember only cold water. Protag.... I wish you hadn't shown me that.

Grayling, you're about a week ahead of me on asking this question. I, too, am working on a '61 bambi and have the toilet issue. Only, I would like to find a pink replacement! Thank you, Protagonist, for the Thetford suggestion, I'll start checking on that. Here in Seattle, this could be challenging. And, Robwok, you're right about the size of the space! A lot of Americans definitely wouldn't fit. Gotta love the incentive, right? Maybe I should look for contortionist training while searching for the toilet, lol...If anyone else has toilet suggestions, please let us know. Thank you!

Ladyfern you could get the plastic toilet and paint it pink with Krylon Fusion

I also PM'd Andy at InlandRV for suggestions since he has a 61 Bambi as well. Will post here when i hear back. Or maybe he will magically appear here. If you rub his bottle hard enough, he does magically appear in a silver cloud of smoke.

I put a Dometic Sealand low profile ceramic toilet in our Bambi 2. The black tank is above the floor similar to yours.

Do you remember which Dometic Sealand it was? When I do a search, several Sealand choices appear.

I could just go with the Home Depot bucket and plastic loo seat - It would match the '61 fabric on the couches. Husband says no, he wants the china toilet.

Take a look at "off set toilet flange." You will be able to bring the toilet bowl out and allow the seat to clear the wall.

Need a wee weewee-er.

I'll keep the offset flange in mind. However, there's not much room to bring a toilet further forward, as it will go past the edge of the platform.

So the trick is:
- Bowl can't be too big or oblong or lid will hit wall
- Base of toilet cannot be too large diameter or will go off the elevated platform
- Must be china. Not plastic. Or Japanese.
- Not orange

I'll get exact measurements here in a bit.

May have to go with this one... Pretty sure it's China.

Base cannot exceed 14" diameter
Bowl cannot exceed 16" diameter
Little to no toilet structure behind the bowl or bowl diameter would have to be smaller than 16".

Height has to be low profile because feet rest 6 inches below platform.

A crude visual:

Get a step stool or build a low platform for your feet.

Platform for feet is an option, but one I am trying to avoid. The stepping in and out of the shower pan is weird enough. But I can build up a box platform if needed. Still have to watch the height of the toilet as the walls curve more inward the further you elevate.

Protagonist - I think your suggestion of a Thetford Aqua Magic toilet may be a good choice, and there is one in china instead of plastic. The overall diameter is a little more than what I measured, but at only 12" height I can squeeze in a little more diameter.

Maybe link will work:

Hey Grayling and Ladyfern
I installed the Dometic Zealand Travler Lite low #302611101, looks like it has been replaced with model #310. Fits perfectly.

A little off topic but, does the toilet sit directly on the black tank or is the tank enclosed in a box with the toilet on top. Might help me with my Avion which has a similar bathroom setup. Thanks, Jim.
