Need a better fresh water line seal at Toilet

I have been using white PTFE tape on the threads of the fresh water line connection to the toilet in our Safari and cannot stop the darned thing from leaking. The problem is that it is nearly impossible to get fingers back there at an angle that allows for a good wrap around the threads and the tape keeps bunching up into a narrow thread instead of wrapping flat around the threads. So I am looking for an alternative to the white tape and am now considering trying good old plumbers pipe dope. Am working with standard RV type plastic connectors, of course. Any reason NOT to try pipe dope?

Would appreciate your thoughts and suggestions.

I've switched almost entirely to the white pipe dope. Get a brand that is approved for both water and LPG to get the most use out of it. They'll sell you a relatively small jar of it, which will be enough for a lifetime.

There is a plumbing supply place near us, not a big box store but a small
store that the pro's use. They also sell gas piping....They'd most likely have it. Thanks!

I just replaced the water line to the toilet. Pretty much the only way was to remove the toilet, hook up the water line, and replace the toilet. Four bolts and you're done.

Does the toilet go back down with a wax ring? I might end up doing that, it's so difficult to get to the line connection back there.

On mine, it's a pseudo-compression fitting that doesn't use tape. In fact, the tape could keep my fitting from tightening the two faces together.

Try TFE liquid. Available at every auto store.

Mine takes a doughnut size plastic/foam ring.

Do not use anything on the threaded joint. Go to a Home Depot and purchase a new fitting. It is a 1/2 inch PEX to female pipe adapter. Take the cone shaped washer out and replace the one in your fitting. Then just a 1/4 turn past hand tight will fix the problem.

Or cut yours off with a garden pruner and couple the new one on. You can buy Shark Bite PEX Rings that don't need special tools to close. Just use a pair of side cutters to close the ring. A 4 foot piece of 1/2 inch PEX is about $1.50.
