Lowering the shower pan on a 1974 Excella

I'm not much of a plumber, so excuse me if there is an obvious answer to this question. But, I was wondering if it would be possible to lower the shower pan on my 1974 Excella with a center bath. Currently it sits about three or four inches off the floor, and it would be nice to lower it for additional head room.

In my particular case, the heating duct, plumbing, and venting run under the seat. However, there is a crack along edge of the seat that runs across it. I could repair the crack, but I was thinking if it were possible, I would trim off the seat and replace it and at the same time lower the pan.

My concern is that the reason that the pan is elevated is to allow for draining of the pan into the tank, thus negating the possibility of lowering it. Am I mistaken? If this is the case, is there a way I can work around it, in order to allow me to lower the pan?

Any input would be appreciated. Thank you.
