My problem was many tiny balls of 'crud' from interaction of copper tubing, hard water and the zinc anode in the water heater, over the years, I suppose...
This 'crud' was lodged in the hot water inlet tubing going into the Moen faucet...I tried removing the insert on top and blowing compressed air 'backwards' after removing the tubing from the supply tubing (had to cut the copper tubing)...but to no avail - some of the 'crud' was dislodged, but not all of it - just no way to get to it - so I also replaced to faucet to cure the problem and get back the hot water flow!
I guess the only way to prevent this from happening again would be to install some kind of heat-resistant screen 'filter' on the outlet of the water heater...haven't looked into that yet - I figure in another 30 years, I'll be at 'room temperature', not needing hot water anymore, and it will be someone else's problem...
