Leak behind shower

On our FIRST EVER trip with a brand new 22' Sport, we woke up in the middle of the night to water pouring out the bathroom floor (shower overflowing) and down outside the front step. Disaster.

After deciding against putting the big, shiny thing on Craigslist immediately and turning off the water source, a peak into the small removable panel behind the shower showed a malfunctioning/leaking pipe of sorts. This piece was, of course, dropped behind the shower after it was taken off. The situation currently appears as such:



I cannot get into the dealer for several weeks. Any thought on why/what happened (in a brand new trailer)? Is this easily fixed? Any help is greatly appreciated. Discouraging start!

There is a pipe that should be connected to the bottom of the brass "t" fitting. Perhaps it was not tight and vibrated off. See if you can fish it out from under the brass fitting, down inside the wall. It should have a fitting to screw onto the bottom of the brass thing.

We also had a leak there.. the cold supply line was too short, fitting could not be tightened....


Did you take it off?

Is there a line connected to the "up" side?

Could be just a cap that fell off,(the AS doesn't have a tub faucet), try getting one at HD, at least with a cap you would be able use the FW system.

I also had a supply line leak. Happened at 3am, fitting was cross threaded and it cracked.

The only time we turn our pump on now is when we are in the trailer.....AWAKE!! LESSON LEARNED.

This is what the shower assembly looks like on our 2014 Sport 22 FB.

It looks like you are missing the piece of pipe that feeds the water to the metal shower hose.

You didn't mention where you are right now, but taking your home in Mora, MN as a base, you could be at the Jackson Center, OH factory in around 12 hours or so.

Surely they can turn repairs faster (and hopefully even better) that a local dealer could. Even if it would take a longer time to get to them, that would open up more time for then to give you an appointment in.

Just a thought... We had very good experiences at Jackson Center.

I hate to be the one to sow suspicion... but if it were mine on my FIRST TRIP... I'd take it back to the dealer and insist upon an ENTIRELY DIFFERENT BRAND NEW TRAILER.
The amount of water that soaked into the OSB flooring beneath the shower could be permanently damaged since it will take forever to dry-out and is a subject for MOLD and disintegration.
A year or two down the road it'll be too late to correct what was evidently shoddy workmanship on which Airstream (and the dealer network) should completely satisfy you.

They don't use OSB any more they use marine grade plywood but it still needs to get dried out .

Another instance of poor qc. that is typical that many have many issues w/new AS. talk to dealer as mentioned above water does major damage, not evident after to late for warranty to solve.

By the way, the hex screw to get the handle off inside the shower is 1/32".

Well...it appears that the dealer didn't bother to function ck the system on the PDI.

The boys at the factory failed on the install and it was overlooked at delivery.

Basically the same thing that happened with our water leak, leaked the first time the system was pressurized.

If you cap the blend valve outlet you would be able to use the rest of the system.

Definitely something the factory should fix....I sure wouldn't trust the selling dealer do it.

If you have access to it and are comfortable doing it, this is an easy fix. Measure length of pex you need go to big box store for fittings and build it in about 30 minutes, then install and you're on the road again.
