Kitchen Sink Removal, 69 Trade Wind

How are the drains attached on the bottom of the double stainless steel sink? Looks like a steel adapter slips into the plastic pipe, but nothing gives. I cannot figure out how the drain pipe disconnects from the sink other than at the trap or cutting / replacing plastic pipe. Any help? Thanks.
