Kitchen Faucet Removal - '66 Trade Wind

I learned today what happens when you have a zinc nut on a brass valve with a steel back up washer. After 48 years they all become inseparable! It made the simple job of removing the kitchen faucet a nightmare. I soaked the threads for two days to no avail.

I thought sure my 1 1/16 socket would break the nut loose, or break the housing, but no. I finally had to saw it off, all while working under the kitchen sink.

I post this as a warning to those who have a "honey do" list for the trailer that says "new kitchen faucet". Sounds easy, but you should procrastinate as LONG as possible.

At least the replacement faucet should be an easy install. Except for having to work on your back in a tiny cabinet with water dripping on your head!

I am hoping she will pick one that I can assemble flex hoses on the bench and then slip it through the holes in the counter tops. Then I only have to tighten the faucet clamp bolts. I can connect the hoses to my PEX fittings and be done. But I doubt I will be that lucky.

I just did mine a few months ago. It was a newer trailer so I didn't have the long term corrosion to deal with and it came off easily. I replaced it because Moen no longer supports or makes filter cartridges. They sent me a new faucet with no internal filter. The new ones come with pull out sprayers come with long flexible lines attached at the faucet side so you only need to attach at the supply end. May need an adaptor fitting to make that connection. If I recall the supply end was 0.5" and the faucet line was 0.375" or something like that.

On one bathroom sink faucet on an older AS or Argosy I had (can't recall which one) I finally resorted to a sawzall solution from the top to remove the damn thing. As you can imagine, I had to be very very careful when doing that so as not to wreck the sink and countertop.

Yep, I had to retreat to the sawzall too. A man's second best friend! The bathroom faucets are still attached to the sink and tub. I cut the copper as I am re-plumbing the trailer, both fresh water and drain lines. I'll probably have ten questions on that project once it starts.
