Is it possible to lower the toilet in our 2014 23D
With the water off, I can open the flush valve on the toilet and - using a flashlight - look down into the drain from the toilet flange into the black tank. It appears that there is a 'tube' leading from the flange to the tank... a tube which could be shortened thereby allowing the toilet to be lowered. I know that I would have to modify the 'box'on which the toilet sits (or just make a new one of the new, lower height.
So, how 'bout it? Possible? Practical? Any downside risks?
Thanks!
Rob

Rob, Good question. That is something that also annoys me with my short legs. I use a fold up step stool to rest my feet on. Not Airstream elegant but it works.

We have an 04 19' ccd and I always feel like I'm toilet training with the tips of my toes touching the floor. Brings back memories, some which were solved through therapy.....I digress.
The black tank on our unit is at floor level and I think the height of the tank plus the crap particle board suround means that we ride high. More than likely to prevent freezing in cold weather.

What is the height from the toilet seat to the floor on the 23D?

OK, Kel, I just went out and measured it, here's what I got...
23D: 21.5" seat-to-floor
Standard residential toilet: 15.5" seat-to-floor
New ADA compliant residential toilet: 17.5" seat-to-floor
As you can see from the actual measurement, the loo in the 23D is in the stratosphere; six full inches higher than a typical residential toilet. This is a real nuisance. If I could just halve the difference, it would be a big help.
As you already know, making a new toilet base would be no challenge for me, I'm just wondering about the Airstream plumbing.

I do not have a qualified answer to your direct question, but it piqued my interest so I measured my floor to seat height (a 2014 27' FB Eddie Bauer, which is basically an International model with some bling) and found it to be just under 18" so it's "almost" ADA compliant. That makes me think that there may be hope for your unit. Best of luck in your quest.

Google "low profile rv toilet" and you'll find there are many options by Thetford, Domestic, and Aqua Magic. They are a direct replacement.
Ask how I know... we had a squatter and moved up in the world

SeeMore, the toilet that we have (original Airstream factory installation) is a "low profile" toilet... it's not the problem, the height of the base under the toilet is what is causing our height woes. Thanks.

We have the same bathroom you have in your rig... We, too, found the dangling feet thing to be an issue...but rather than lowering the toilet, we raised the floor ... by building a platform that sits the space in front of the toilet (it is not attached to the floor so it can be moved for cleaning, etc...it's wood, and covered with vinyl... We also cut a bathroom mat to match the shape and use snaps to hold it in position in top of the platform. Problem solved.

Wow, the toilet does look far off the floor. I wonder what is underneath that stand that requires the height? I can imagine there are pipes for the shower but they should be on the subfloor.
Post photos when you rip it out.

I stuck the smart phone down there this morning and took a few (barely acceptable) photos... there is no reason why the platform couldn't be between 3.5" and 4" lower. Well, actually, I suspect that the reason is that this design allows for model-to-model parts interchangeability (remember, this is only a theory!)

Well, Kelvin, I may not. Linda is encouraging me to direct my feeble thoughts elsewhere. I could easily do the add-on platform like TBRich did, as a matter of fact, I've already made the template for the top.
I still like the lower-the-potty idea, though.

Very nice! I'm wondering if you ever "stub" your toe on the platform? Your color match looks really good... well done, concept and execution!

I had replaced the factory toilet in our Airstream with a Natures Head composting toilet and did not want to remove the ability to easily go back to the factory toilet. So I built a platform similar to what TBRich did. I chose to screw it in and to have a door on the front so we could store toilet paper rolls inside of the platform. The height is perfect for us as we are both short so no hitting the head on anything while using the bathroom or shower.

We have not had a problem stubbing our toes. Of course of it's new to your routine it will take awhile to get used to the change. For us it's natural now. We'd miss it if it was gone!

My solution. Folds up neatly and stores out of the way between the seat and wall.

My toilet layout is like that in my 25' Safari, rear corner bath and rear corner bed. Inside that box, above the plywood floor, is the sewer black tank. On my trailer there are also fresh water lines between the sink and shower above the tank inside the box.
I'm tall, so my toes stick out under the door into the bedroom when I'm on the toilet. DW is short, her toes dangle.
