"House Size" Toilet for Airstream?

I stumbled across this link for a full 14" high, elongated ceramic toilet. Due to being a big guy (6'6"/300#) with old knees (and everything else), I recently replaced the old round-bowl low toilets in my house with the higher, elongated ones and they make a difference. Looking hard at this upgrade for my 2014 27FB Classic.

The 27FB have the toilet kind of tucked in at an angle (not a lot of room), and hard against the wall in the back. The dimensions on the schematic "look" like it will fit as a replacement, but curious if anyone on here has actually installed one of these "House Size" toilets in their Airstream, particularly any of you with a 27FB floor plan. Thanks in advance for your replies and advice...

One of the best changes I made. Roomy and comfortable.
Used to be SeaLand toilets but was bought by Dometic.
Can't advise on 27FB layout as mine is in a Tradewind.

Just put one in my 23d, but the low profile one since the toilet is on a platform in my model. However...the back of the previous round thetford had about an inch of space between the toilet and wall, which was consumed by the new one. And it used about an extra inch in front as well. So I'm not sure on yours, depending on what toilet you have and what its dimensions are. You'll need to check the dimensional specs carefully to make sure it'll fit.

Of course the bleeding obvious answer is you are talking about installing a high profile ceramic RV toilet right.

I asked the same question about installing a Dometic 320 earlier in the week, but in my Flying Cloud 28. http://www.airforums.com/forums/f542...-a-182158.html

No one 'fessed up to having done it in that model, so I took the cheap way out and got a male-compatible seat for the round Dometic 310. Have yet to use it, but are going camping next week. If it doesn't work out I'll order the larger throne.

My current "throne" is a ceramic Dometic (low profile, round bowl) and it is tight up against the wall. The 27FB design has the toilet cant slightly towards the door (if you are over 6' tall, you have to sit with the door open!) so I was wondering if anyone had done the upgrade, and how if fit given the tight confines...

What a great idea --- if it will fit. This "opening the door & contorting the knees" exercise is awkward --- a true downside for the 27FB. It's unclear to me if this toilet provides any remedy for that, but the toilet itself sounds like a good replacement for the stock toilet.

A Google search found the lowest price at $155 plus $30 shipping:

I looked into replacing the 310 with the 320 also for my 27 EB. The install instructions call for more room between the back wall and the toilet than there is available without moving the plumbing base. Others have tried also same results.

I believe the toilet fit dimentions are the same in the 25 and 27 FB. I have tried to find a ceramic toilet to fit. The only one out there is Dometic. It needs 10” of clearance from the wall. The standard Thetford plastic toilets fit 9” from the wall and almost touch. Upgrading to a ceramic toilet would mean facing it towards the door leaving no leg room with a closed door. We gave up.

There are 1" offset toilet flanges available. Maybe that would solve the problem.

I have the same problems as OP except I don't weigh 300#, and our unit is a 27FB. I bought the 320 when it first came out about 2-3 years ago and the local AS dealer couldn't make it fit. They gave us full credit against the price of a riser that elevates the seat, but keeps the original factory issue toilet. Resulting height is about 15-1/2 or 16 inches and a lot easier on the knees.

My recollection is that the riser only cost $35 or $40.

Please tell me what and where to get such a flange. 2 different dealers and an independent tech are not aware of of them. And the Airstream factory I might add.

Google "offset toilet flange" or "offset water closet flange".

Any plumbing supply store has them, even the big box stores have some.

There are different offsets for different conditions. You will have to make sure that the offset you get is correct for your need.
Mostly they are used when a toilet sets directly over a floor joist.

House Sized toilet - ?

I agree with the folks talking about the offset toilet flanges. Its a cheap and reliable way to change the wall to tank or bowl spacing and also the clocking of a toilet. There are also many seat height add on devices or lifted seats available through handicap or "old-folks" supply places that are sturdy enough to handle a big guy.
An alternate, although expensive, is to go with a full height marine toilet with a macerator embedded in the bowl bottom. It would be a significant plumbing change, but the "output" is fully ground and directed by about an inch to 1.5" hose to the tank, which could allow clocking the throne to a better position for more comfortable thinking. There are various resources, https://www.fisheriessupply.com/ being one of them (or at least they used to). I have used fisheriessupply multiple times for fittings and fixtures I want to be really waterproof or rough weather durable - and no, I do not work there. They are far from cheap, but I have found them reliable so far.

Our high rise toilet is a new Airhead Composting toilet. It is a household size toilet. I made a 2" riser so I could plumb a urine drain to the black water tank. We just finished a 17 day trip mostly dry camping with now two grey tanks. This set up relly simplifiies waiste solutions. Now, if we just had more fresh water capacity to match the 76 gallon holding capacity.

Anyone installed a Dometic 320 in a 30’ Airstream? Looks like there’s plenty of space. Would love to hear from someone who’s done it.
