Clooged SHower Drain

SHower drain is clogged and the plunger brings up black gunk. Snake is too bulky to run through the line. Can I safely use a drain cleaner that shoots air into the drain?

That's the first thing I looked at. Drained only a few gallons along with the winter antifreeze.
