AS Water System Antifreeze Lifespan

Can anyone tell me how long antifreeze is good for after it is added to protect an AirStream water system from freezing? I have had some health problems and haven't had opportunity to replace it for some time.

Thanks,
Ed Thompson

There shouldn't be any problems with anti-freeze not working over time, the ethanol or propylene glycol won't change into water and break your pipes. If it was winterized properly you should be fine indefinitely. There are plenty of other things that cause problems in storage though, especially the ones with tails

If you're worried, you could just drain it out at the low point. Any areas that don't drain completely will still have anti-freeze in them.

Hope your health improves soon and you can get out on the road again. For my money the best anti-freeze is taking the trailer to a place that stays warm in the winter

Cheers,

John

Thanks, John

I got a response from another A/s list and he made it a joke. "You mean it might go bad??? Ha ha ha!!!" Your response was sane and to the point. I appreciate sanity and knowledgeability more the older I get. I will "winterize" it after the first of the year by going to Florida. In fact, I plan to move there next year. Thanks again. Ed

Hi

Stuff does indeed happen. Even automotive anti-freeze has a finite lifespan. If it's over about 4 years old, it's probably worth replacing it.
