Aqua Magic toilet removal

Hi, I just bought a '70 Caravanner from my uncle and it is in pretty decent shape aside from a few dents, some old window gaskets, some stove issues, and a water hose that just busted loose in a very hard to reach area (just finished replacing it with pex). Anyways, I am also having some issues with the toilet, the Aqua Magic has two pedals-- water and flush, and it looks like two stages on the water pedal.
My problem is: when the water pedal is pushed all the way down (stage two) water shoots up from behind the toilet. I am trying to remove the toilet, and have the two (I assume there are only two) bolts undone, but can't figure out how to disconnect the toilet from the drain.
Has anyone dealt with this style toilet and it's removal before?
Thanks,
Kelly

If you have the 2 nuts off it should pull straight up,oh yes, disconnect the water. That is unless a PO used an adhesive to seal it down.Dave

Toilet removal

When I recently took the toilet out of my 68 TW, it came right up after removing the 2 closet bolts(along with most of the rotten floor). Be careful if you try to pry on the lower toilet flange, it does not take much to snap a piece off.

The water inlet hose screws onto the back of the toilet like a garden hose. The valve is very likely to freeze and split in cold weather if not completely drained. Most likely your problem. Good luck.

Thanks to all who responded. I should have given it a try while I had the water disconnected, shouldn't be too hard to re-disconnect though now that I have new fittings and water line.

Be Sure To Check the Toilet Water Valve

It might be worth changing the water valve on the back of the toilet while you have a chance.

For less than $20 you can replace the valve that works with the 2 step foot pedal. These typically go bad after some number of years. Ours began to leak after 16 years and the leak was not noticeable. But it sure caused problems with our hardwood floors.

Wow, Lucius, you called it. I've attached a picture of the valve, it is cracked in the back, and I think it did do a number on my floor. Any idea where the best place to find that valve would be?
Thanks,
Kelly

Thetford Sells Them...

Thetford sells them as a kit and some RV suppliers have them on hand.

Aqua Magic Galaxy Parts

Be careful with the web page that I referred to above. There a several Aqua Magic models and I may not have selected the correct unit for your trailer.

KC aravanner,

What's the latest? Were you able to purchase a valve kit? How's the floor look?

I replaced my entire toilet since I was also having trouble with the blade in the bowl - it was not sealing. My floor was wet but a few days with a box fan blowing air across the floor solved most of my problems.

The oriented strand board was reasonably firm so I went ahead and put everything back together.

Hello
Just curious to see if you were able to replace the valve and how difficult it was? I have the same issue with my '76 Sovereign.

Yes, I did fix it. Amazingly the part that I ordered online worked! I was only amazed because it was a little bit different shape than the original. Apparently they don't make the original part any more, and the new one is in a 90 degree orientation to the way the old one sat. But, thankfully everything lined up and it works like new now.

The floor wasn't bad actually. I lucked out with the failure of the toilet coinciding with a period of not-too-heavy use. I also live in CA where it's pretty dry usually, so I think the damage was lessened some. It's not the prettiest picture in the world, but it didn't fall apart on me. Thank God!

I have a Thetford Aqua majic Galaxy 40 and need to remove and repair. I can see the flange bolt in front. How do I get to the other flange bolt? I have disconnected the water line. Also the front flange bolt turns and the nut does not come off. Any suggestions?
