Dear WhiteLight (and others who replied)

Thank you so much for sharing your experiences with an actual CT intallation & daily use!

I am glad to hear it wasn't unpleasant on a boat ... although disappointed about the TP issue. Oh well ... just like visiting Mexico ... daily
At least we know what to expect.

We are leaning toward a marine model due to the smaller footprint ... if we had more space we might go electric Biolet.

To the posters who wrote about Greywater systems in Cali, you are correct that a PERMITTED greywater system is as much trouble as full septic. Local folks have a long & proud tradition of ignoring the government whenever possible and we intend to preserve our cultural heritage by continuing that tradition.

thank you all,
I will let you know how it goes in 3-6 months when we are (god-willing) done with the restoration.

One slight note of caution based on my own experience. I've never seen one used in an Airstream, but I did have one installed in a cabin I owned.

The composting toilet worked perfectly when my wife and I were using the cabin, but we frequently lent it out to friends, and if those friends didn't properly operate the unit (put in enough bulking material) it would stop functioning correctly, and take some time to get the composting process back to full working strength.

I guess my view, after our ownership is that if you, the owner is the only person taking care of the toilet, then composters are a good way to go. If however you plan on loaning the trailer out to friends, it might not be an adequate solution.

We did end up removing our composting toilet and replacing it with a standard system.
