Should i have put 1975 tradewinds land yacht on post instead of just tradewinds

May I ask why you need to replace the sink and shower? We had a 1976 Tradewind in which we painted the very dull fiberglass with an epoxy two part paint. The paint was applied by brush and settled such that no brush lines were visible.

I am in the process of repairing all of the cracks and holes in all of the bathroom fixtures. I am using West System epoxy with some of the fillers for the big holes. The epoxy for plastic is their GFlex. Easy to work with and the cost for the basic epoxy kit was $20.00. Had to drive an hour for my first kit now I just order what I need online. I also bought an epoxy plastic repair kit from a small RV shop. It worked ok and was same price for about half of the size of the West Marine kit. I will be posting pictures of the repairs. Don't have before photo's but you cannot tell where the repair is. Also, on a crack - I was told to drill a small hole (I use 1/8th size bit) at the end of the crack - that might stop it from cracking more.

After the repair I am painting it with Krylon Fusion paint. The color I found closest to the original color is Butter Cream.

Ran to the house during my quick lunch break - here are a few pictures of the repairs with the West System Epoxy. Pic 1 is the surround under the sink - the repair is in the upper left. Pic 2 is repaired and painted. Pic 3 is of the bottom of the bathtub - the hole in it is rather large and in the upper right. This was the faded and weather color of all of the bathroom plastics. Pic 4 - the entire end here was on the floor. The next picture is the sink preped for paint. Next pic the corner was all in peices and the last on the crack was in the rear left all the way to the 2 holes past the cleco. The we site has very good instruction in both video and text. I saved the worse for last - the bathtub. I had done a little fiberglass and bondo repairs but no much - So experience is not necessary. Go slow and do a little at a time. I have been working on theses few peices for 3 weeks. It is do-able.

That is their smaller kit - it seems to come complete with everything you need. I do not know if it comes with the sandpaper and sanding block. Mine was just the epoxy and the hardner from West Supply. From the looks of the picture - this might be all you need. You can use this stuff with or without fiberglass matting for more strength.

Be sure to follow the instructions to the letter. I used my black and decker mouse with 60 grit sandpaper to ruff up the surface then 120 grit for the final sanding after the cure. I also did the backside first, sanded it the way I wanted it, then applied a little on the front to cover up any blemishes. Sanded the front, then I wiped down with alcohol just prior to painting.

They said you can also, before applying the epoxy, heat the plastic with a torch for better binding of the epoxy, but I have not tried that yet. I am too afraid I might melt it.

I am no professional at this plastic repair but this stuff seems to be the right stuff for plastic repair. Got this information off of another thread.

I used West Epoxy extensively in my 68 Trade Wind bath. G-Flex should be even better, I used the regular resin with the 206 hardener. Also used a lot of the microballon filler in places. After all the fiberglass/epoxy work I painted the tub and sink with a 2 part epoxy tub and tile paint from Sherwin Williams ( don't remember the name-maybe TileDoc)
I tried the brush at first but was not satisfied so I used the Prevail power sprayer kit. YOu mix the paint and the pour in into the jar when has a replaceable power/spray head. Basically making your own rattle can. The paint must be thinned just a little to flow in the sprayer and you MUST wear a good respirator. Use several light coats or it will orange peel. It if does you can wait a day, wet sand the runs and repaint. The results were fantastic, very smooth and shiny and very durable. You could use a touch up gun on your shop air if you have one, but I was afraid of moisture in the line so went with the Prevail spray units.

so, what did you wind up using for paint? looks like you sprayed it "in place" ?

also looks like you're painting the doors/cabinets with the formica-like finish? how are you doing that?
(I've seen other restorations where the abs plastic parts were re-finished in stark-white, yet the other off-white parts of the bathroom were just left original...which looks awkward, imo.)

Also, I notice your trailer has been "pexed". got any pictures of that?

(I have floor rot in the back that needs to be addressed, and these fixtures will all have to come out to access it...and the pipes, too, so I'll likely re-do w/ pex. )

ye just taped everything off and sprayed it / used plastic paint from Lowe's / paint said you did not have to prime but i did any-way / i will get name of paint / i plan on painting all of it white / i want to put a little orange in there somewhere / just have a few issues with roof then i can finish rest of walls / i had to spray light coats or it ran / after last coat i took some 320 sand paper and soapy water and it clean up great / i did pex work myself / was simple i could get you a list and some pix's of it / did not take long at all / on that rot problem you might could get some tar and paint all rotten wood with it and just fill any voids up with spray from / just a idea / just make sure you fix what started the rot

yeah, I'd love to see the pex-pix.

on the rot: painting and/or spray-foam doesn't cure rot.

and the plywood is an important structural element, especially back there. It needs to be cut out and replaced.
In this particular situation, its beyond rotted in a couple of spots; its "missing".
I did some temporary repairs to brace things up a while back, but it really should be properly fixed once and for all...which means, the bathroom has to come out...and also, the pipes that are in/around the area, which will be replaced w/ pex...and since it all has to come out, that would be a good time to paint the old abs plastic...etc, etc.

Nice job - I am almost finished with mine also. Just have to wait for warm day to paint bathtub.
