Toilet Troubles 101
Kirk, I would carefully remove the toilet from the black tank & disassemble the porcelain bowl from the pedestal. At the bottom of the bowl (if it is the same as my toilet) you will find the valve and foot pedal linkage. If the flapper is jammed or stuck it can the be cleaned/lubed and the proper operation checked before re-installing the commode onto the black tank. Be sure to inspect/replace any worn gasket. Hint: (The gasket could be what has the flapper stuck causing the pedal to be inoperable.) Also check the return spring that allows the pedal to return to its upright position. Again clean and lube all moving parts and check for proper operation B4 you re-install it! Please keep in mind that the stuff you are dealing with could be 43 year old poop and other nasty items that someone has tried to send to the black tank. This would also allow you to see the condition of the flange connection to the black tank. Inspecting the insde of the black tank for leftover sludge would be a good idea at this time! You may not want to do this again. make sure the tank is as clean as you can get it and flush it out thoroughly. Also make sure that the waste valve is in good working order and has no leaking gasket and gate operates smoothly. Hope this tutorial gets you where you wanted to Go! Pun Intended! Happy Trails, Ed
