64 Bambi II shower pan

Hello

The shower pan on my 64 Bambi project (not a coach yet), needs help. It appears to have been cut from its orginal shape. It has several cracks and one small hole. Has anyone had to replace a shower pan? I checked out having one made from aluminum or stainless, and the sm shop wanted $300 to $400,seems pricey. I was wondering if fiberglass would be an option?

I would think as long as the surfaces of the pan were properly prepped you could use fiberglass to fix it. I would be willing to bet it was fiberglass originally anyhow. In the 60's models most of the bath was made from fiberglass.

Once you get it fixed you will want to paint it with an epoxy that will stand up to the use, and possibly put some type of grippers in for a non slip surface.

I have made various fairings for aircraft by making a plaster mold from a part. If your shower pan will hold together well enough, I would grease it up good and build a plaster mold on it. I embed strips of wood and/or metal in the molds to make then strong enough to handle. After removing the original, you can do some detail work on places where there were cracks or holes in the original.

Many cities have firms that refinish old bathroom fixtures. One of these outfits would do a fine job of putting on a gleaming finish. Or you could just give it a couple of coats of enamel.
