63 overlander commode info needed

Hello. I purchased a 63 overlander and am starting to go through it. I have no experience with RV's. It looks like the original commode. Can someone please explain how it is supposed to work and what maintenance/things to check I should do before attempted use? I want to make one camp trip this month before I start tear down to fix the floor and rebuild. Thanks for any help.

Depending on whether it is the original, you may have two levers, either hand or foot. If you have two levers, one will be to fill the bowl, the other will be to open the valve and dump the bowl. If the contents are liquid only, you would just need to dump the bowl. Add water to dump solids. If only one valve, you would move the lever partway to fill, and all the way to dump.
It would be a very good idea to put some plain water in it first, to make sure it works as intended, and the dump valve will hold the contents. Also good to make sure the dump valve will open, and that you have the proper adapter for the slinky before filling the holding tank with waste.

More details?

The foot lever opens the ball valve in the bottom to dump. There is a flex spray house on the side of the tank attached to the water line.
Is there any maintenance needed on the dump valve in the bottom of the commode? I will run a hose in tonight and see if any thing leaks.
Is the original commode worth keeping? It seems to be porcelain and sturdy. Thanks.
