1959 Wanderer - original toilet questions

We have an 18' wanderer that we have taken out several times. It is completely original, though restored. We sort of figured out the toilet mechanism ourselves, but wonder if we need further education. Are there steps to flushing, opening the line, etc.? (We had a clogging problem on the last trip, and discovered more elements than we realized were there - like the pull-up handle rear left of the toilet.) Can some one fill us in? Thank you!

Assuming your 59 is similar to my '60, the handle in the floor is for releasing the black water from the tank. It is closed when down and open when up. The grey water held from the sink in the pipes tees in below that stopper. This allows for seperate drainage of grey and black water.
