Why yes dear, I winterized the trailer

I have been camping since before I was born, literally. And since 1970, there has been an Argosy or an Airstream in my life. Long story short, I've been maintaining these trailers, or helping my father do the same for a long time.

Well, I'm not sure what happened. Either I forgot to drain the tank, or got to it too late in the season.

Oh Well, as my father used to say, "What's the sense of being stupid, if you're not going to show it."

Bummer...Isn't it amazing how much force frozen water can exert?

Consider that rocks are broken apart by natural freeze/thaw cycles in nature, to the point that they are eventually broken down small enough to crumble into soil....

Dunno what that tank was used for before, but now it's a great example of "What not to do..."

If your a beer kinda guy, cut bad half off, make feet, fill with ice and favorite brews for happy hour.

Yeah that happened back in the deep freeze of ‘17-‘18, how cold was it? That’s the same ice that’s in it now.

nice tank

Cut that tank in half and make the good half a planter. Every winter you can look at it to be reminded when it's time to winterize

Worse story here.
Back in '86 I bought a 25 foot Silver Streak and started living in it. Moved from Fresno up to Coeur d' Alene Idaho and bought a 34 foot Silver Streak but kept the 25 footer and put it in a storage lot.
Somebody brought their trailer into the storage lot after a trip and had marmots in his rig that got into my 25 footer.
They camped under my twin bed where the long metal water tank was and crapped until their heads hit the underside of the bed.
The water tank burst.
Now I have a thick layer of wet marmot crap to clean out but it's under the metal water lines next to the tank.
Finally had to scoop it out with my hands 'cause I couldn't get a tool around the hard lines.
Luckily it didn't stink.
The marmots also chewed on my electrical wires. They, and mice, like the peanut oil that they use to put the covering on electrical wires.
My 34 footer has a plastic water tank that is flexible. Much preferred to metal tanks.
Lessons learned are the most effective way to prevent future problems.
Make a wood stove out of your ruptured tank if you still have it.
Waste nothing!

So how did the rest of the system fair?
To freeze that volume and not damage anything else would be "dumb luck"
