Whats this piece used for? Regulator?

Hi can anyone tell me what's this used for? It looks like some kind of water regulator. It came out of my 1972 Safari and I was wondering if I need to reattach it when redoing my plumbing. Thanks.

Regulator

Looks like it may be your water pressure regulator value to help keep from blowing out your piping or fixtures if a campground water source has too high water pressure to your trailer. It most definitely will need to be re-installed or replaced with new when rebuilding your plumbing. If you are able replace all water lines & fittings with Pex plumbing lines and fittings as they are less likely to have issues with freeze / thaw cycles that your trailer may be exposed to. Lots cheaper overall than replacing with new copper lines. Ed

That's what I thought it was. I just bought a shurflo water inlet for my airstream which says it comes with a water regulator built in it, should I use both or get rid of the original airstream one? I plan on installing pex, Ed.

I moved the water inlet, added the Shurflow inlet, replumbed with Pex and got rid of the AS regulator.

x2 with Pex. Keep the plumbing job simple. Amazon have water regulators, that screw on the end of your fresh water hose. A good backup for your Shurflo regulator.

I only rely on the built in Regulator at the City Water connection. Campgrounds I have stayed at with extremely high pressure (90 psig at one in Mississippi) usually ask if you have a regulator and offer one for a deposit. I might add an extra onto the tap in that case

I'd use your new surflo and do away with the old regulator. As a precaution I always use a brass one that screws on the faucet and the hose attaches to it. You never know what the pressure is at a campground and it isn't nice to come back to the trailer with your hose blown out spraying water. Ask me how I know.

So my regulator and water inlet is located after my water heater, is that ok? That's the way it came in the 1972 Safari. I've seen or heard that it should be located before the water heater in between the kitchen sink and water heater, does that matter? I plan on installing approximately in the same original location.

regulator

The pressure regulator built into your Shurflo should be good enough and that inlet should be the first thing your campsite water connects to! This will insure that pressure issues at any campground do no damage to your water heater or other systems. You can use a screw on regulator at the site water hookup but basically that is overkill if you connect only thru your Shurflo! Pex is the best way to go! Ed

Belts and suspenders here too. Screw-on brass regulator at the hose bib, and trailer regulator just behind the city water inlet. Any other interior location is asking for trouble. Ditch the old one IMO.

Replace the copper everything. It's not worth keeping.
