Water pump Losing Prime?

We made it home after our maden voyage to one of our favorite State parks for a weekend in our new to us 1977 Safari.

Everything worked great except for the waterpump, which I assume is the origional.
When you open a faucet for a short period of time (30 seconds) or flush the toilet, the water pump runs for about 3 minutes. If you leave the faucet on for a few minutes (like washing your hands) the water pump shuts off right after you shut off the faucet. After the pump shuts off, if you flush the toilet right away the pump runs for about 10 seconds.

To me it sounds like the pump is loosing prime when not used for a period of time.

Is there a check valve either in the pump or somewhere on the intake line I can adjust/replace?

Thanks!
Mark

I believe all the WP's have a check valve, ask me how I know ours does.

The pump was the first thing to take a dump on us during our first camping trip.

Original....it has served you well.
