Water Pump

I need some help figuring out the water system in my 1971 Safari, 23'. We got it a week ago and have been busy cleaning and fixing. Pop rivets are getting used up fast. When we got it, the water pump worked. Turn on the faucet and water came out. However, the water pump was mounted on a thin piece of plywood and made a lot of noise vibrating. I removed and cleaned the pump and replace the thin plywood with a new piece. I also replace a brocken "O" ring in the pump valve filter as well. After putting everything back as it was, red wire to red wire, etc., I then filled the water holding tank. Now, when I turn on the pump, it runs real slow and no water is available at any of the faucets. Also, water runs out of the drain pipe under the trailer under the sink area. I keep looking at all the pipes and valves under the sink, but nothing jumps up and says here's the problem. Any help would be appreciated.

In your replacement and removal you may have opened a drain valve that sticks out of the floor under the sink. This would account for both the water running out of the bottom of the trailer and the low pressure. The pump seeming to run slow could be a result of your hard work. It is now much quieter??

Thanks for the information. Yes, the pump is quiter. I'll check out the drain valve today along with a lot of other things. Boy, these Airstreams sure are build good. Solid as a rock, just like by Chevy truck.

Still haven't figured out how to get the pump to work properly. All drain vavlves are closed and every time I turn on the pump, water comes out the drain outlet under the sink area under the trailer. Not out the faucets. I must have put something in backwards. If I hooked the wires in incorrectly would the pump work backwards?

Dan,

There should be a check valve in the pump to stop it from pumping backwards. As long as you went red to red and black to black you should be ok with the direction of flow. The only other thing I can think of is that when you were reconnecting everything are you sure that it all went back to where it cme from?? Usally the only way that water will come out of one the drains is if a valve is open. Do you have an owners manual or service manual. They usally tell you where all the valves are for winterizing. The valve that is leaking may not be under the kitchen counter but could be further back and just coming thru the belly pan under the kitchen???
Sorry I can't be of more help, I was even in a used 74 safari today, and I did not even look under the sink!

Thanks for the advice. Yes, I have an owners manual and have read it several times. I'll go over everything again this morning while I am wide awake. Got to be something simple that I did wrong.

You were right. I thought all valves were closed however, the hot water drain valve was not completely shut. Happy days are here again.
