Water Heater won't stay on?
So I'm having some trouble with my water heater. It will light but immediately turns off. The pilot fires up, I get a flame but then it shuts off. I'm hearing a click when it shuts down.
Pressure, control board?
AS is a 2008 Safari Sport 22.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance for any help.

I had similar. There are several possibilities of cause. What have you tried?

Same here on my 2004 28' international. It was the flame sensor/igniter. $25.86 on Amazon. VERY easy to replace. It will take you 60-90 seconds to replace.

Mine kept turning off after a short run time. Check your orifice, spiders sometime web across and block gas flow. Removed mine and held it up to light and you could see tiny threads. You wouldn't think it would be enough to hurt anything, but after removing heater runs great, better flame, and quieter. Something you could check.

Thanks for all the replies everyone. Thanks Dave for the PDF. I need to read this front to back.
I think I will try the Sensor/Igniter first and then if no luck, the thermocoupler.
So far I have not have a lot of time to work on it but I have cleaned everything and made sure all connections are solid. Didn't seem to help. I still get about 1 -2 seconds of flame and then it goes out.
I'm hoping it's a an easy fix as mentioned above. I've got to the run by the AS tomorrow and get the right model number so I can order the igniter sensor. So maybe this weekend or next I'll be able to do the repair and see how it goes.
Thanks again everyone for the advise and help. Much appreciated and I will report back on the outcome.

Ok.. I tried 'all the above' and finally replaced the 'igniter board'... with a "Dinosaur Board"... problem resolved.

Had similar issue with 2000 Bambi 19'. Cleaned and adjusted what I think is called the ignition tube. Seems to be working much better now. I live on some rural property and have a lot of wasps in the area. I found a small nest in water heater area.

If you are getting a "nesting" issue, plug up the holes on the outside door when NOT in use. A simple method is to open the WH door, drape a section of screen material over the opening then trap the screen by closing the door. You will
Probably want to cut a slot in the screen so the latch can easily protrude.
We have a "wasp screen" on the door and have had no issues. Wasps and spiders tend to like the "propane" odor and are drawn to its presence.
Just remember the 3 things needed for fire.. Air, fuel, ignition/heat source.

sounds like a dirty igniter/flame sensor. clean with steel wool or replace. new board may fix it as it will have a different flame signal requirement

Getting ready to order some parts. When you guys are saying igniter/flame sensor, are you talking about the spark probe? It's basically the pilot.

It is the electronic board called UIB (universal igniter board). I got mine from this guy. Spoke to directly on phone! Helped isolate and ensure this was the issue!... R & G Electronic Home

Thanks. I have a spark probe I'm going to try this weekend and if that does not do the trick, I will call R&G and order a new igniter board. Fingers are crossed but regardless, I'm learning about the heater system.

Hi from AZ. . . as my old man frequently reminded me, do the easy stuff first, Dummy. Clean tube & replace thermocouple (cheaper than board) It's worked for me in the past., regards, Craig

It's not the problem most of you are chasing, but when we first got the AS, our heater would not run after initial startup. Symptoms included low water pressure and immediate shutdown in electric or gas mode. The unit had been winterized and the isolation valve was not returned to the open position at commissioning. Since the valve is hidden behind drawers, it took some investigation to find that it was still closed. Pat

If you can find one that fits the dimensions, no reason not to replace with one... especially if you can find a 'marine' version which can handle the movement you will have towing...
