water heater - with both propane & electric options

We have a 2015 27FB FC that has both propane & electric operations. We always have both turned on & have never had any problems until yesterday. The propane wouldn’t stay lit. But after reading on this forum- I switched to the other propane tank + lit the stove burner for a while & this must have relieved some air out of the line & went back to working ok. My question is why didn’t the electric thru shore power heat the water even if the propane wasn’t working?

Thanks,

Glenn

A few possibilities to check:

Does the water heater have an electrical heat element? Some do not.

Assuming the water heater has a 110 volt heating element:

1) Does the heater have power both 12 volt and 119 volt?
Is the plug/wire connected
Is the circuit breaker on?
Trailer power set to "use"?
Water Heater 12 fuse good?
Sometimes the water heater is on a GFI circuit. Reset the GFI?
2) Has the heater ever been turned on with the tank empty? This can burn out the electrical heating element rather quickly...and lead to this symptom.
3) Sometimes a bad relay on the water heater control board for the 110 volt element has happened. Bit more difficult to check out.
4) Sometimes a fusible link (emergency shut-off device) can go bad and needs to be replaced.

If you have the skills, and a multimeter, these are fairly easy to troubleshoot.

If Not, ANY RV tech that knows how to service the water heater should be able to fix it. Does NOT have to be an Airstream dealer...
