Water heater temp adjustment-auto ignite system

I just replaced the old circuit board on my water heater to fix the auto ignite.
Now the water gets extremely hot and I am not sure if it would shut off by itself.
How do you adjust the Temp on these? The manual water heater i have in my other trailer has a manual lever for the temp setting.

There is a disk shaped thermostat that cuts off the burner at 160f. There is a backup, the ECO (emergency cut off) that will open at 190.

So, yep, your RV water heater is set to deliver water that is about 40f hotter than a residential w/h. It helps to compensate for the fact that you only have 6 gallons (well, sometimes 10)

Let it run until it quits, then measure the water temp

If you decide the temperature is too hot, you can purchase thermostats, 'disks,' with a shutoff temperature with another setting, e.g., 140, 130, etc.

Also check that the temp sensor to the right of the exhaust vent is in contact with the water tank.

I would check the temp sensor contact, if there would be one ??
I am puzzled by the way the temp is read on this old system .

There should be wires going to a round "disc" component then the board.

Look to the lower right of your exhaust vent of the water heater. I think I can see one there in your picture.

Peter, there MUST be a sensor...

Do you have the model? I will try to locate in drawing for you.

We can then find the correct wire on your BOARD that the sensor attaches with. Then you can test

I understand the logic and wiring. its the brown power wire going to the circuit board that is the supposed to have the sensor, but it goes straight inside the wall. I will have to dig deeper from the inside later, when I have time. I will look for the model number as well.

found the sensor and the thermal cut -off switch at the back of the unit. Took some dismantling and digging to get to.
Thermostat says 140 degrees as some of you suggested, but my unit did not shut off until the water temp was 165 degrees and it took well over 1 hour to get there. I am sure part of the reason is the 2 radiator hoses connected to the unit.
I removed the thermostat and cleaned the surfaces and made sure that a good contact was made and now it shuts off at 155 degrees. Still a bit hot for my taste, but it will allow for longer showers.

You may need to remove the sensor again and install it correctly. By that, I mean use thermal grease between the surfaces. That is the only way to ensure proper contact and an accurate temperature reading. Here is an example of the product:

I have the same problem, so I asked my local Airstream dealership to check it out and lower the temperature if possible. They told me they researched it and that there is no adjustment, so I just turn the water heater off in the morning after about 20 minutes or so, and turn it back on again in the afternoon for about 20 minutes or less when the water is no longer hot enough for doing dishes or whatever.

They must not have spent much time researching.
With the help of the kind folks of this forum, i was able to diagnose and find the right remedy:

If you want specific temp sensors, your local AC or industrial supply (Granger, McMaster Carr, etc) may have just what you need... And it won't have the "Airstream penalty" ( higher cost).
