Water heater insulation

The insulation on my 10 year old Atwood water heater is pretty much gone. The cardboard and the fiberglass is ripped and torn beyond repair. I want to replace it but am wondering if there is a better way than to just wrap it in fiberglass insulation again. Any ideas?

maybe try the foil-faced bubble stuff, called "reflectix" I believe. Seems to be the modern insulation of choice.

Considering that the bubble stuff can melt, you might want to check if it will stand up to the temperature of the water heater if you use it. Our water heater is encased in styrofoam which can also melt, so perhaps the bubble stuff is okay.

I thought of the bubble stuff that is foil faced but, like you folks, wondered about the melting factor. It is also fairly thin and would probably want to layer it. Perhaps fiberglass is the best. I could buy a home water heater jacket, cut it to fit and duct tape it on. Does anyone know how hot they get? 130 or 140 degrees maybe?
