Water Heater "Clicked" Off

We made our first Airstream outing of the year this weekend. While sitting in the front couch, minding our own business, there was a loud "click" which seemed to come from the bathroom (center bath). Upon investigation I discovered the water heater was no longer operational.

Investigating the possibility that the switch itself had decided to make a trial run as a fuse, I pulled it out (the switch is in the bathroom). It tested fine, but I left it out for the night. The next day I put it back in to see if I had voltage back at the heater, and when I flipped on the switch, Cape, we have ignition!

Now, somebody please tell me what happened and why.

Sounds like the Mississippi group is trying to keep their Missouri president's trailer in tip top shape; one of those stealth repairs.

Could be that the water heater burner was calling for ignition & failed, for whatever reason. It then timed the control out till it was reset by turning the electrial switch off & then on again. I think the manual calls for a 30 sec reset time. Or then again it could be ?????
Best,

It was dead for, oh, 10 min. or so. Maybe longer - I gave up and went to bed.

It could be as simple as the thermostat cycling off. Did you have plenty of hot water at the time? If it happens again, run some hot water and see what happens.

Sometimes when mine shuts off it makes a rather loud click. The gas valve is what I think is making the noise.

No, it didn't just shut off. It went dead.

The only thing that makes any sense to me is that the circuit breaker (thermal) snapped off, and later reset. It suddenly occurs to me that if that is, in fact, the case, perhaps what I heard was the gas valve suddenly snapping shut.

Mark--I'm not sure just how your water heater wiring is configured, but on our unit (2002 Bambi ), if the therm-o-disc ( hi temp ) control opens it will not auto reset. In fact our manual says a new therm-o-disc is required. Just a thought.
Best,
