Water heater?

I think I have an original propane hot water heater in my '78 argosy. My question is...why does my pilot light keep going out after it is done heating the water to the temp I have it set for. In the owners manual, it says you can adjust the pilot but mine came with no adjustment skrew. Would appreciate any input. Im a brand new owner of the airstream family and my family just came back from our maiden voyage and love it!

Check for soot on the thermocouple - clean it carefully. It's the silver probe thing that sits in the pilot flame when lit. Also check for blockage in the gas opening - if partially blocked then not enough heat to keep the thermocouple hot enough to keep the flame going. Also check the placement of the thermocouple in the flame - it should be fully engulef to keep the gas open to the pilot flame.

Is it sufficiently blocked from the wind? Is the wind blowing it out? If original, could be that the orifice is partially blocked...

Argosy 30 - cool.. not many of the big larger than 28 foot Agronskis around.

Curious - why are you heating hot water - ... ref: your "Hot Water Heater" comment..

I know.. just joshing you.. as I used to say the exact phrase...

you might want to check the gas line... if original, it is guaranteed to have his nasty black goo in the line.. perhaps enough to restrict gas flow enough that your pilot light goes out...

Well thank you very much for the replys. I'm gonna try all the different cleaning options and adjusting the thermocouple at the flame. And for the pics, hopefully they will be here shortly. Thanks again.

I'm having similar trouble with my WH in an original '77. I have changed out the thermocouple assembly but don't know how to go about cleaning the gas line. Is there a chemical that I could introduce from the tank end? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

It was fine for the first tank last weekend, but the pilot went out and wouldn't stay lit. Changed over to the second tank, but no-go. Changed out the thermocouple (both parts) and still can't keep the pilot lit.
