Upgrade LP W/H to LP/Elect. combo

am purchasing a 95-34' AS. am wondering if anyone has upgraded to the newer LP/Elect water heater and what is involved with the conversion

On my previous AS (96 21' Sovereign) I changed from a LP to a gas/elec water heater. The mechanical change out was not difficult. I had to use PEX to replace some of the grey plastic lines. The biggest problem was the electric. I could not find if AS had installed a separate power line that ran to the swith in the bathroom. The heater needs 12v and 120v lines. I tapped into the 12v line behind the fridge and into an outlet under the bed for the 120v. I then put two switches on the side of the bed frame, one for 12v and one for 120v. Both switches had to be on for the water heater to work but it worked well. I did use one of those switches that have an indicator light for the 120v as a reminder that it was on.

I put an Atwood in our 1970 31' and it only needed 120v. I also used a lighted switch that works great. We have never used the gas when we have a power hookup and can take back to back showers with no problem. It heats up fast when we first start it. I would put in another one for sure if I did it again.

Almost all the newer heaters are available with dual options. From what I understand from my people (who I trust), is the HWH should be on a seperate 20 amp breaker, which makes it dicey to wire-in, if even possible. I'm considering going into my switch that alternates between the micro-wave and the roof air circuit and wiring to that, since we don't use the micro-wave.
