To Replace or Not to Replace that is the Question

I'm doing some significant repairs to Sentimental Journey (our 69 Overlander) so do I remove and replace the water heater now wait for it to fail sometime down the road?

We also have to replace the toilet so should we go to a composing unit. We don't expect to do allot of boondocking.

We're just looking for a consensus here, thanks your help.

Appliances, being "easy" to R&R (compared to wiring, plumbing, floors, etc) are such that one might be able to buy them all from a distributor for a reduced price. And a savings on shipping. Etc.

I have a 97 LY that was all original when I bought it in 2015. So far I have replaced the TV, microwave, battery charger, 1 roof vent, furnace control module, and water heater control module. All items were original and no attempt was made to repair them, new replacements were installed each time. Its sorta like buying an old house....better to make upgrades as you go vs trying to keep it all original.

I would replace and upgrade the water heater if the significant repairs have given easy access. If your plan is to mostly camp with full hook ups I would sort the plumbing and buy a new standard toilet.
