still no hot water at the taps

hi
been having this problem for which seems like forever . got a 72 ambassador . boiler lights up and heats the water (tested it at the relief valve on top ) but when i pull the mixer tap to the hot side no pressure at all ,and no hot water .tried every combination of valves open and closed in the rear bumper section , also checked by the bathroom side cupboard and toilet water supply . has plenty of cold pressure and water just no hot . problem is i live in the uk and every time i visit to use it i have to try something else . had a look locally to see if there is a moblie guy who does airstreams but not succeeded . as i use it to stay in cant empty it to take somewhere as id not have anywhere to stay or store my stuff while its getting looked at .,can anybody steer me in the right direction to find the fault .also have limited tools as i cant bring all my kit over from the uk bringing a few tools each time i come . by the way forgot to mention i stay at newport dunes rv park ca when i visit . look foreward to your help many thanks steve

Steve,

So, where is your trailer, UK or Newport? As I understand it, the trailer is in CA, you're in UK..
If you want, I can help you next time you're in town. I live close to Newport Beach.
I wonder if the trailer has a water heaer bypass that is in the bypass mode? Or a blockage somewhere.

I'm a little confused by your description.

Is the problem that the water flows, but it's cold?
Or is the problem that the (hot) water does not flow?

Depending on what's happening, the solution differs.

I think he's saying no water flow on the hot water side at all - at least that's how I read it. Think uwe is on the track. If you turned the bottom bypass to bypass but didn't open the top bypass valve - would that not shut down the flow all together. The opposite combination would do the same I think...

Yup you have a hot water tank by-pass that is inb the by-pass mode. Look for some taps at the hot water tank and there will be some for sure.

water tank

I had the same problem with a '68. I was going camping the next morning and was testing every thing first. I found the problem after a bit of testing. It ended up that there was a Calcum build-up( from hard water) in the HOT out pipe in the tank. Right where the Copper flair fitting attaches. I could get the tank to fire, fill, drain but not water presure. I just CAREFULLY drilled out the blockage (RELESE THE PRESHURE FIRST), flushed the tank, let it fill and spill out the open line to clean it. Put the line back on and it worked great. Hot water tanks are one of those things the allways gets over lookes at maintenence time.

i found one of my factory installed bypass valves installed backwards. (they have arrows on them indicating the correct flow direction)

the water flow would remove the washer from it's seat and block the flow.

fun figuring that one out!

Good advice so far....but there is another possibility that has not been mentioned.

If he has a check valve on the hot water outlet fitting at the tank, it may be calcified shut or simply defective. In either case, it should be replaced.....preferably with an all metal one.

I see this a lot when folks hit FL and can't get any hot water flow from their heater.......only problem is that the access to the check valve is usually almost impossible!!!!

After looking at the bypass, I would pull that check valve (if it is there)and replace it!!!
