Pilot light adjustment

Ok Gas gurus here is an easy one.................

I have installed a new water heater. I purchased a LP with pilot model that also has the factory AC element.

The thing I cannot figure out is how to adjust the pilot light. The pilot burns with a 1.5 inch flame and for the last week I only heard my water heater main burner light off 3 times. Yes we both took daily showers!

I just noticed this fact last night as I was re-lighting the heater after we moved to a Generator friendly location.

The water heater being always on, should not have anything to do with the height of the flame. (ours has no adjustement.)

This looks more like a problem with the thermostat.

Must be a trick question

you adjust the pilot light by turning the pilot light adjustment screw. It is located at the thermostat and usually has a cover screw that needs to be unscrewed.

Good think you remind me about that screw, I had forgotten about it. Mostly use the heater on electric.

I was looking for an adjustment screw, but it was dark and rainy, so I did not take the time to look under the big screw. I will do so and report back!

Well, I pulled the big screw and there was an adjustment screw of sorts. I lit the pilot and set the knob to on and the main burner lit. I turn the screw to the right...... nothing changes. So I turn the screw to the left and ....... nothing changes. I noticed on the exterior of the thermostat there is wording that says pilot adjust but above that in a small circle it says no?? Meaning that I have no pilot adjustment?? The pilot works fine, I just wanted to cut down on the propane usage

So I guess it goes on the gripe list for the RV place unless I can get more sage advaice from my fellow sufferers.

I agree on the if it works don't mess with it, but I am striving to make everthing the best I can and the size of the pilot light just seems wasteful. I have been told that at times I am a___ renentive (you fill in the blank) so I tend to spend a bit more time and money on things. Sometimes it makes no real difference.

The better half is fine, she is recovering form a hetic week at the Florida State Rally, thanks for asking.

Have you checked LP pressure, maybe it is high.

When I replaced the Regulator due to it leaking I checked the pressure. I have exactly 11 inches WCP. I am going to use it as is and have my local RV guy check it next time I take it in for something I can't do or don't have time to do.
