ShurFlo pump keeps running - no leaks

My water pump stays running after all faucets are closed. I understand that this is because the system can't fully pressurize. I've checked everywhere, and the only thing I can think of is the overflow vent on the water tank might be causing it. But how could the tank ever pressurize if there's a vent?

The water tank, never ever is pressurized.

Your water pump, if it has diaphragms, needs to have them replaced.

Also, it could be the pressure cut-off switch is now defective.

Or, both.

Shurflo pumps are not know for longevity.

Cheapest fix?

Replace the pump.

Like Andy said, the pump sucks water from the tank and pushes it into the pipes.

The tank just stores water.

Does water flow at full volume and pressure?

I have seen ours not turn off after "loosing prime" sometimes and the flow is always weak.

I have cleared the problem by letting one faucet run until the flow is full strength and then turning off the faucet.

Regards,

JD

It pumps great! Just "chatters" like it's pumping slowly when the faucets are off. Pump is only two years old.

Are you sure your white water tank isn't almost empty? If the pump starts getting air instead of water it will continue to run for 30-45 seconds after the the faucets are turned off. If you've just FILLED the tank, then the seals or diaphragms are going.

Tank is half full. But It's done on a full tank. I'm going to check the voltage. That seems likely as I've had issues with my 12-volt fuse panel.

There is a check valve in the pump, if it fails water pressure will fall and the pump will cycle slowly. This could be the problem. Replace the pump and see what happens.

Tighten the fittings on the intake side of the pump. It may be sucking air and be unable to reach the shut off pressure.
Look for leaks. However slight, any leak will cause a pressure drop and the pump will cycle on and off.

3 reasons for the pump to run all the time.

1. Water leak on the outlet side.
2. Air getting into the inlet side.
3. Pressure switch on the pump has failed.
